With a self-catering holiday there is the obvious need to buy food and drink and following many years of past visits to France we know the Supermarket scene inside out. As we arrived at a reasonable time on a Saturday afternoon we quickly unpacked into the mobile home and went on the first "trolley dash". We didn't want to leave things until the Sunday morning as we have been caught out by odd French opening hours before, so off we went on our voyage of discovery.
After a few u-turns and signs that never delivered, we found the "mother of all" Hyper Champions in a purpose built small retail park about fifteen minutes from the campsite.

Even though we flirted with an even bigger Auchan, a strangely attractive Hyper-U and some smaller stores, we always returned to the Champion - even their petrol was keenly priced.
The top picture shows a section of the Canal du Midi that stretches from Sête to Toulouse - shot on a rare overcast day as we visited the Auchan Hypermarket in Béziers.
